10 Eco-Friendly Products to Buy in 2021

There are so many different eco-friendly products out there now that it can be overwhelming when you are just starting out your eco journey.

To help with your efforts to have a more environmentally friendly home, I have put together this quick shopping guide to give you ten of my personal favourite eco-friendly products to buy in 2021.

1. Reusable Beeswax Wrap For Food

Beeswax Food Wraps
There is a huge amount of plastic waste each year from plastic bags and plastic wrap which could be reduced with this eco-friendly alternative. Beeswax wraps can be used to preserve food for short periods without the need for plastic. Research has also found that beeswax's microbial effects make it more effective than plastic wrap as well! They are eco-friendly, sustainable, and biodegradable!
2. Bamboo Phone and Watch Charging Dock

These bamboo iPhone and watch charging stations not only make it easier and neater to charge your phone and watch, but they are also eco-friendly! The perfect way to make make your home more environmentally friendly.
3. Bamboo Cutlery

Whether you are eating on the go, picnic, festivals, or walking - these are the perfect plastic alternative to reduce single use waste. They can be easily cleaned after use in warm soap water and if looked after properly, can be re-used forever.
4. Organic Bamboo Straws

One of the most commonly used single-use plastic items around the world are straws. Therefore, reusable bamboo straws are the perfect alternative to reduce waste and also reduce cost. Most bamboo straws come paired with a cleaning brush which means they are reusable for long periods of time making them an extremely cheap, easy, sustainable option.
They can be paired with reusable bamboo cups as well for the ultimate eco-combo!
5. Shampoo Bars

Think about how many plastic shampoo bottles we get through in our lifetime? How much of this plastic pollutes our oceans?
Choosing shampoo bars instead of regular plastic shampoo bottles not only reduces plastic waste, but they also use natural ingredients making them cruelty-free and vegan. A single bar equals three bottles of regular shampoo and proves that even natural products can work to fight issues like itchy scalps.
6. Sustainable Zero Waste Natural Deodorant

Almost all zero waste deodorants are plastic free, 100% natural, cruelty free, chemical free and vegan. The packaging is also either reusable or recyclable making them the perfect alternative to standard plastic deodorants!

7. Method Natural All Purpose Cleaner

The ingredients in the range are all naturally derived and biodegradable, using lactic acid rather than chemicals to tackle 99.9% of bacteria. This all purpose cleaner can be used for all cleaning tasks meaning you can reduce on plastic waste buying multiple different detergents.

8. Reusable Safety Razors

Reusable safety razors are the perfect eco-friendly alternative to disposable razors, and are also super cost effective! Reusable razor blades typically last five to 10 shaves and can be easily replaced with new blade cartridges. Using a refillable handle is much better for the environment as you throw away less plastic.

9. Reusable Cotton Pads

Guide to ensure you are buying eco-friendly products
Whilst I have given you a few eco-friendly products here, they are so many available for almost all aspects of your life. However, the real trick is figuring out which ones are genuinely environmentally friendly.
The following four tips can help you figure out if a product is truly a greener option.
1. Find trusted eco-friendly manufacturers
Do your research before buying products and make sure that the company you are buying from has a good track record with making honest claims.
2. Look past the branding
Just because a company markets their products as eco-friendly, it doesn't necessarily mean they are. As stated above, do your research before.
It is estimated that millions of pounds of food and material are incorrectly labeled as organic, some intentionally.

3. Look for official certifications/labels

To know if a product or manufacturer is trusted, you can easily look for certifications from organisations with a good name. Some of the common ones are Green Mark, Fairtrade and FSC. These can be an easy way to know if a product meets the minimum levels of environmentally friendly production.

Another option is to see if a business has won any legitimate award for their environmental initiatives.  As a general rule, try to stick to compostable products whenever possible to help reduce your carbon footprint. Composting is always earth-friendly. Avoid plastic bottles and products made with BPA.

4. Consider manufacturing costs

While buying a more efficient refrigerator may reduce your energy usage, the cost to produce a new fridge often outweighs the benefits. Instead, replace your items with greener alternatives when they have finished their lifecycle.

If your appliance is working fine then getting rid of a perfectly good one to use a more efficient one is not the greener option. You must recycle and reuse whenever possible to avoid single use items.

Making the switch to eco-friendly alternatives doesn't happen over-night, whether you try a new eco product once a week/month/few months, it will make a difference in the long-run.
